Hooked on Oyster Bay?

We don’t blame you if you’ve become hooked on Oyster Bay’s Sauvignon Blanc – it’s as popular in our office as it is with Waitrose customers.

However, if you’ve found you never drink anything else we’ve got a few suggestions: the superb Santa Rita Floresta Sauvignon Blanc from Chile or the grassy Springfield Estate Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa.

All three are mouth-watering and succulent wines made solely from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. No oak, no weird tricks, just pure and delicious Sauvignon Blanc showing its true varietal character from three corners of the world. Don’t get stuck - explore!

If you are a keen claret drinker...

… enjoying wines like 'La Patache' from the Medoc in Bordeaux, may we suggest a trip to the southern hemisphere?

What we had in mind was a bit of Australian cool-climate brilliance like the Cape Mentelle Cabernet/Merlot or the elegant Rustenberg John X Merriman from South Africa. Both are variations of the traditional Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They are flavourful and quite powerful wines that, as with traditional claret, go well with beef, game or a roast leg of lamb.

Enjoy a chilled Pinot Grigio?

If a nice, chilled glass of Italian Pinot Grigio is what makes your evening (or lunch) just that bit better we’ve got some real gems for you to try!

Within Italy, our Pinot Grigio from the foothills of the Alps is a real step up in quality. If sticking to the crisp and easy-going style, the Brown Brothers Pinot Grigio from Australia is a must! Feeling a bit adventurous? Then try Villa Maria’s spicy and fruity Pinot Gris from New Zealand.

Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are the same grape variety but the latter indicates a style originating from Alsace. There’s a delightful array of flavours and it’s absolutely brilliant with food. Many wine experts predict that New Zealand Pinot Gris will be ‘the next big thing’.

If you like the juicy flavours of Beaujolais...

If you like the juicy flavours and lighter body of France’s Beaujolais wines you may also like Brown Brothers Tarrango from Australia or the Feiler Artinger Blaufränkisch from Austria.

Surprised? Well, we’re talking very different grape varieties and countries, but if you’re after a lighter bodied red that’s easy-drinking, versatile with food and has fresh, red-berry flavours, you won’t be disappointed.

Your taste buds will appreciate Tarrango’s cherry notes and the redcurranty flavours of the Blaufränkisch. Terrines and soft cheeses will be more than happy with these new partners! All three can be lightly chilled for summer drinking.

Like the clean and fresh flavours of Mâcon-Villages?

If you like the clean and fresh flavours of Mâcon-Villages with its apple and pear fruit, you’re going to love Danie de Wet’s Earth & Sky Chardonnay or the zesty fruit flavours of Montana’s unoaked Chardonnay.

All three are made from the Chardonnay grape, none of them have seen any oak treatment and they are all from medium-warm wine regions. However, we’re talking France, South Africa and New Zealand here. They are not exactly the same – their origins give them a degree of individuality but they do represent their respective regions and there are enough similarities and differences to take your taste buds on a gentle Chardonnay journey around the world.

Love big, bold and spicy reds?

If big, bold and spicy wines like the Jacob’s Creek Shiraz make you tick we suggest a taste of the Australian Rutherglen Estates Durif or the southern French stunner Château Maris Vieilles Vignes will do you good!

These wines are quite different from each other in terms of region and grape variety but if you’re a fan of heavy duty reds, you’re up for a treat. The Durif is dark and bold with plenty of black fruits and the Château Maris is a powerful yet smooth red – all three are fabulous partners to spicy grilled meats!

If you like a buttery Chardonnay...

If you like the creamy texture and ripe fruit flavours of Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay a glass of Bonterra Chardonnay from sunny California or Joseph Drouhin’s Rully Premier Cru from Burgundy will be a real treat!

Made from Chardonnay grapes and fermented in oak, these are three big white wines, with full-on textures and a soft mouth-feel. The Rully expresses a great toasty character with ripe fruit flavours and the Bonterra has almost tropical fruit flavours and a creamy butteriness to it.

Discovered the delights of Pinot Noir?

If you’ve discovered the delights of Chile’s Cono Sur Pinot Noir, it’s very possible you’ve gone on a Pinot craze by now and already tried our entire range of this beautiful grape variety.

We strongly encourage you to try two quite different versions though: the smoky and redcurranty Stoneleigh Pinot Noir from New Zealand and Domaine Pascal Maillard’s Chorey-lès-Beaune from Pinot Noir’s spiritual home: Burgundy. The latter is a soft, slightly spicy and rustic Pinot Noir, a bit different from the fruit-driven New World versions, but oh so delicious. Why not try all three of them next to each other to really discover the allures of Pinot Noir?
